North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has congratulated Queen Elizabeth II on her 70-year reign, the Foreign Ministry announced in Pyongyang.

Diplomatic relations since 2000…

"I extend my congratulations to you and your people on the occasion of your country's National Day, Your Majesty's official birthday," Kim Jong Un wrote in his message to the Queen.

London and Pyongyang established diplomatic relations in 2000. The two countries have maintained their respective embassies, despite the deterioration of relations between North Korea and Western countries in recent years due to Pyongyang's weapons program.

… But the British Embassy in Pyongyang closed

However, the British Embassy in Pyongyang is currently closed, due to draconian entry and exit restrictions imposed by North Korea during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, the official KCNA agency reported that Queen Elizabeth II congratulated Kim Jong Un on the anniversary of the founding of North Korea on September 9.
