Fujita Medical University in Toyoake City, Aichi Prefecture has decided to train all students as disaster prevention officers by encouraging all students to take a course on "disaster prevention officers" who will be leaders in regional disaster prevention.

According to the university, such efforts are rare in Japan, and "I want to develop human resources who can contribute to the community in the event of a disaster."

Fujita Medical University has been designated as a "core hospital" that controls disaster base hospitals in the prefecture in the event of a large-scale disaster, and is also developing a system to accept disaster victims within the university.

Under these circumstances, the university has incorporated a course into the curriculum to acquire the qualification of a "disaster prevention officer" who will be a leader in disaster prevention in the region in order to train human resources who can contribute to the region in the event of a disaster. I decided to let the students take the course.

In the course, you will learn about the mechanism of disasters, knowledge about disaster prevention and mitigation, how to operate evacuation shelters, etc. for 12 hours or more, and after the course, everyone will take an examination to qualify as a disaster prevention officer.

At the university, after being certified as a training institution by the NPO "Japan Disaster Prevention Organization", we will start a trial from this year and will start full-scale implementation from the next year.

Yukio Yuzawa, President of Fujita Medical University, said, "I think it is important for students to be aware that they will take the lead in supporting society in the event of a major disaster through the education of disaster prevention personnel."
