Hervé Godechot, president of the Radio and Digital Audio working group of the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom, ex-CSA), explains to the microphone of Europe 1 what awaits the French for the second edition of the radio festival, which takes place on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June.

The radio festival begins on Thursday, an opportunity to celebrate the favorite medium of the French.

On the program, many radios mobilized to offer special programs, portraits, interviews, and even open days for some.

Workshops for young people are also planned.

This is the second edition of the radio festival.

The initiative was launched last year by the president of Arcom, Roch-Olivier Maistre.

Arcom remains the conductor for this year, in particular via Hervé Godechot, president of the Radio and Digital Audio working group.

"What challenged us was that there was no radio party, even though it is the favorite medium of the French. 40 million listeners is huge", recalls he at the microphone of Europe 1. "People listen to the radio on average 2h45 a day, we all have a radio at home. The radio has always accompanied us all, and in all aspects of our lives: in mobility, at home, sometimes at work too. And this intimate medium was not celebrated, whereas there is a music festival, a film festival, a museum night. The first edition went so well that We started again this year."

Radio celebrations and meetings

Last year, more than 500 events took place.

Beyond the mobilization of radio stations, this is an opportunity for Arcom to bring together professionals from the sector during the Assises de la radio.

They take place this year for two days, Thursday and Friday.

The professionals will hold several thematic meetings, in particular on how to strengthen the place of radio in the territories and the technical means to get in touch with listeners thanks to new means of broadcasting, in particular DAB+ and listening on the Internet.

The question of content is also central.

“What should tomorrow's radio be like? What will make me prefer to go to my radio rather than my computer or my television?” asks Hervé Godechot.

"This is a question that is absolutely central, especially in competition with music streaming platforms. All radio stations must ask themselves this question, because the sector is changing, people are changing and we have to be at their listen."

Les Assises de la radio are accessible to everyone via the Arcom website and social networks.
