  • In this adaptation of

    RuPaul's Drag Race

, ten candidates will compete to win the crown of best drag queen in France.

Drag Race France

If, in the United Kingdom, the queen is celebrating her jubilee these days, on our side of the Channel, we will soon be celebrating with our "queens" to us.

On Saturday June 25, the first season of

Drag Race France

will kick off on France TV Slash at 8 p.m.

The first episode will also be on France 2. That this reality TV show featuring drag queens is launched on the day when the Pride Marches will parade through the streets of Paris and Montpellier is no coincidence: it is particularly awaited within of the LGBTQ community (lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer).

We already knew that this tricolor adaptation of

RuPaul's Drag Race

will be presented and judged by Nicky Doll, supported by host Daphne Bürki and artist Kiddy Smile.

This Thursday afternoon, France Télévisions revealed the names of the ten drag queens who will compete for the crown:

Looks, cowries and French songs

At the rate of one episode per week – the first will be put online on a Saturday, but the following will be on Thursday – the ten candidates will have to take up small and big challenges – and perform parades.

The cult events of the program will be there.

In addition to the

Snatch Game

, during which they will have to dress up as a celebrity, the queens will face, among other things, the "ball", requiring three looks for three different themes, the "reading challenge", where they will have to coat the cowries in words spirits and the "makeover", which will make them compete in pairs with people who have never done drag...

At the end of each episode, the two drag-queens who will have least convinced the jury will face off during the traditional lip sync, a performance in playback on a French-language song... The jurors will save one and ask the other to “sashay away”, i.e. to leave the show.

Since its creation in 2009 by RuPaul Charles, the

RuPaul's Drag Race

concept combines entertainment with the celebration of queer identities.

Each episode is an opportunity to discuss the life of the candidates, their family, friendly and romantic relationships, and to address topics such as homophobia, transphobia, racism, grossophobia and, more broadly, the fight for LGBT rights and against discrimination.

For now,

RuPaul's Drag Race

has fourteen seasons in the United States.

In recent years, foreign adaptations have multiplied: in addition to France, Thailand, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Australia and New Zealand are entitled to their own version.

Belgium, Sweden and the Philippines will soon be added to the list.
