This April, in response to an accident in Nara Prefecture where a visually impaired woman came into contact with a train inside a railroad crossing and died, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism recognized the standing position in the braille block in front of the railroad crossing and inside the railroad crossing. We have decided to ask road managers such as local governments to install the block, and will revise the related guidelines by the end of this month.

In April, there was an accident in which a visually impaired woman touched a train and died at a railroad crossing in Nara prefecture, and police are investigating that she had an accident because she could not know her standing position at the railroad crossing. ..

In response to the accident, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will ask road managers such as local governments to install Braille blocks that call attention to the front of railroad crossings and blocks for visually impaired people to recognize their standing positions inside railroad crossings. I decided on a policy.

In front of the railroad crossing, in addition to the Braille block that informs that there is a railroad crossing in front, it is required to actively maintain a linear block for proper guidance.

Regarding the block inside the railroad crossing, if it has the same shape as the block in front, it is desirable to have a different shape because there is a risk of misunderstanding.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will revise the relevant guidelines later this month to inform road managers.
