Details of the crisis of the Moroccan imam who hit his students with “Falaqa” .. Video

With the rapid spread of a video clip on social media platforms, security forces in the city of Tangiers in northern Morocco managed to arrest an imam, on Tuesday evening, after he appeared violently and violently beating children memorizing the Qur’an.

In a statement to the General Directorate of National Security, "the interests of the Information Vigilance have monitored a video clip in which this imam appears in a mosque in the Bab Taza area, on the outskirts of Chefchaouen (northern Morocco), using violence against minors."

The same report confirmed that the imam of the mosque was handed over to the competent authorities, in implementation of the instructions of the Public Prosecution.

Activists on social media had published a video clip of a mosque imam and a teacher of the Holy Qur’an abusing children who did not memorize the Qur’an well, using the so-called “falaqa”, a tool to raise the child’s feet and hit them on them.

The video clip, which documented the violence of a number of children, sparked resentment and grumbling of public opinion and followers on communication platforms, denouncing the imam's aggressive method as he beats innocent students.

And some social media pioneers considered that "this behavior is contrary to the principles of Sharia and religion, and it offends the dignity of childhood and humanity as well."

Noureddine Darwish, an imam at a mosque, said in a post on Facebook, "Beating the students of the Qur'an in this way is a grave mistake that deserves to be held accountable, and portraying and publishing this is a heinous mistake. All private and public educational institutions and in sports and recreational institutions.

Darwash added that "the insistence of some teachers on the use of beating in teaching the Qur'an may have very dangerous psychological effects on the child and on his relationship with the Qur'an in particular and religiosity in general, and in contemporary educational methods there is no substitute for this method."

Given the horror of the scene, the imam himself said: "This widespread passage should not be used to abuse the Qur'anic books, the role of the Qur'an and mosques in Morocco, and the conservative sheikhs in charge of them, who made Morocco one of the countries that memorize the Holy Qur'an most."

On the other hand, sociology researcher Abdo Yassin said, "This behavior is disgraceful and requires the imam of the mosque to be presented to a psychiatrist in order to examine his behavior in abusing children who are receiving Quran memorization lessons in the mosque."

Yassin added to "Sky News Arabia", that "children who were severely beaten and at the level of the feet need psychological support and accompaniment from specialists in psychology and sociology."

The spokesman believes that "these children will live in constant fear and anxiety for life," so he stressed "the need to present them to pediatricians who specialize in psychological support."

On the other hand, the same researcher also expressed his refusal to generalize what was circulated in the video clip to all the religious schools and the role of the Qur’an, noting that “this behavior would sow panic among children, and generate for them the conviction that all Quranic schools and mosques are taught by violent professors. " As he says.
