Created in November 2021, the Independent National Authority for Recognition and Reparation (Inirr) has just set the compensation paid to victims of child crime in the Church at a maximum of 60,000 euros, as revealed by France Info in an article published on Wednesday .

This body responsible for examining the claims of victims of sexual violence within the Church has defined three criteria for establishing the amount of these reparations: the nature of the facts suffered, the consequences on the victim, in particular psychological, and finally how the religious institution has, or has not, reacted.

Compensation decided on a case-by-case basis

According to our colleagues, a scale makes it possible to establish the degree of seriousness of each of these criteria.

Thus, a sexual exhibition corresponds to 1/10 while repeated rapes are considered as the maximum degree of gravity, ie 10/10.

France Info specifies that each fact is studied on a case-by-case basis by a panel of experts responsible for determining the amount of compensation.

According to a recent report by the Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church (Ciase), the number of child victims of touching, sexual assault or rape by religious within the Church is estimated to 216,000. A figure that rises to 330,000 if we take into account the secular aggressors, as the leader of Ciase explained last October.
