The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair concluded yesterday evening the activities of its 31st session, which was held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, from 23 to 29 of this month, and was organized by the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, affiliated with the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi.

This year, the fair witnessed the participation of more than 1,000 publishers from more than 80 countries, and the fair program included more than 450 diverse events that met the aspirations of the public, including dialogue sessions, seminars, literary, cultural and intellectual evenings, in addition to a wide range of educational activities. And the activities of the professional program for publishers, and the children’s events, which were presented by a group of academics and specialists.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, had directed the allocation of six million dirhams as a grant to purchase a valuable and integrated set of titles, references and educational materials included in the "Abu Dhabi Book", to be distributed to state school libraries, in support of the publishing and education sectors, and to enrich the proceeds of The references they contain, in a way that enhances the ways of acquiring knowledge for all students at various stages.

This year, the exhibition introduced a sales monitoring system, with the aim of providing immediate and updated information on the movement of books and materials sales within the exhibition, and providing exhibitors the opportunity to obtain data and detailed reports on sales on a daily basis.

This system also contributes to developing an effective study that monitors the reality of book fair sales, and opens the way for a closer look at the public’s interests and desires, as well as access to a documented database with regard to book sales and exhibited materials, which serves future visions, and raises the level of plans and their capabilities. developmental.

In its last session, the exhibition witnessed the distinguished participation of Germany, the guest of honor, in the presence of 35 publishers, and the participation of 80 authors, professionals and creatives in more than 40 sessions, including daily workshops for children and youth, through which they tried to introduce German culture to the exhibition’s audience, and to enhance cooperation between intellectuals and publishers. Arabs and Germans.

In its 31st session, the exhibition celebrated the Dean of Arabic Literature, Dr. Taha Hussein, as a central figure, under the title: “Taha Hussein.. The book is insightful,” by allocating a pavilion to the central figure, and organizing seminars that formed an intellectual forum to navigate the worlds of Taha Hussein’s literature, and to analyze his works. The pavilion of Dr. Taha Hussein in the exhibition was able to attract the attention of the public with its distinctive design, as it takes the visitor on a path through which he reviews the life story of the late writer and thinker from his birth until his death, and his achievements. The visitor has a saying that confirms that the Gulf region will be a center of culture in the region, due to its human energies and material capabilities that qualify it for that.

A platform for fans of the seventh art

• The 31st edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which concluded yesterday, witnessed the return of the "Black Box Cinema" event, which this year screened 22 short films from 13 countries;
