Mike Myers wouldn't mind shooting one
Shrek
movie a year if he had the chance.
The Austin Powers
star
lent his voice to the green ogre in the original version of the four films released between 2001 and 2010, and he is eager to return to service for a fifth installment announced for 2023.
More than a decade after his last performance, Mike Myers remains extremely attached to the character.
“The concept of an ogre who hates himself and manages to accept himself made a lot of sense to me.
I love playing Shrek.
If I had to do one
Shrek
a year, I would be delighted,” he told
GQ
, before explaining why he chose to give the character a Scottish accent.
The right accent
“The form of the fairy tale is Eurocentric and imbued with classicism.
When I was approached to do Shrek, initially I played him as a Canadian.
And then I re-recorded it as Scots because I thought it was the popular accent (par excellence),” continued Mike Myers, adding in passing that he had Scottish ancestry.
While waiting for the arrival of
Shrek 5
,
Puss in Boots
2
arrives in theaters next December.
For his part, Mike Myers is back on the screen in
The Pentaverate
, a new Netflix series with burlesque accents in which he plays, as usual, several roles at the same time.
