“I am absolutely shocked and devastated by the sudden and unexpected death of Ray Liotta.

He was so gifted, adventurous and brave as an actor.

Playing Henry Hill in

Goodfellas

was no small feat, as the character had so many different sides, so many complicated layers, and Ray was present in almost every scene of a long and difficult shoot.

He absolutely blew me away, and I'll always be proud of the work we did together on this film.

My heart goes out to his loved ones and I am saddened by his too early passing,” the filmmaker told

Variety

, while his film co-star Joe Pesci told EW, “God is a freedman, and Ray too.
