Diam's gave up rapping ten years ago after converting to Islam.
She talks about the reasons for this choice in "Salam", a documentary in which she engages with sincerity.
The film moved the many fans present during the screening on Thursday evening, happy to find the star if only in pictures.
Diam's alias Mélanie Georgiades was only in Cannes in pictures for the screening of the documentary
Salam
which she co-directed with Houda Benyamina (Caméra d'or for
Divines
in 2016) and Anne Cissé.
However, she sent a video message to thank Thierry Frémaux for having selected the film and for having understood why his new life made his presence on the Croisette impossible.
Fans turned away at the entrance
The rap star, retired from the profession for ten years and converted to Islam, explains his choices by confiding in an open heart in front of the camera.
Such a massive crowd thronged outside the screening room that some fans had to be turned away and left with tears in their eyes.
They will be able to discover
Salam
in theaters on June 1 and 2, but also on the BrutX streaming platform.
