The Yubari Melon, which is popular as a gift, was auctioned for the first time, and the highest one was auctioned off for 3 million yen for 2 balls.

The first auction of "Yubari Melon" was held at Sapporo Central Wholesale Market from 7 am on the 26th, and a total of 2720 melons, which were just harvested on the 25th, were put up for auction.

Yubari melon has a strong sweetness and is characterized by rich reddish flesh.

According to the producers' union, this year there was a lot of snowfall in winter, and although the snow melted slowly, the weather was blessed in early spring and the sweetness increased, and the shipment volume was higher than usual.

When the auction started on the 26th, the dashing shouts of the middlemen echoed in the hall.

It did not reach the record high of 5 million yen three years ago, but this time the company that packs melons etc. in the city is 300,000 yen higher than last year at 3 million yen. I bid off.

Kiyomichi Noda, president of the company that bid off, said, "I bid down because I wanted to contribute to the local community as much as possible. This is a rare taste in recent years, so I definitely want you to eat it."

In addition, Mayor Tsukasa Atsutani of Yubari City said, "I am glad to receive a very wonderful evaluation. Please come to Yubari and enjoy it."

The melons that were auctioned off on the 26th will be served free of charge to the first 100 people at the Yubari Melon Dome, a direct sales facility for melons in Yubari City on the 4th of next month.
