Nigeria is Africa's leading oil producer and yet the country is struggling to take advantage of soaring crude oil prices, which have exploded in recent months.

Even more surprisingly, Nigerians sometimes struggle to find fuel and have recently faced a severe shortage of petrol.

So the authorities promise to come to grips with the oil thieves, who are siphoning off national production and destroying the environment in the Niger Delta.

Liza Fabbian wanted to know more about this parallel market, in the oil-producing regions of southern Nigeria.
