The activities of the first edition of the META Film Festival will be launched in Dubai on October 27, presenting over three days a group of international films, premieres, in addition to the red carpet activities that will witness the passage of stars and talents from the Arab world, Hollywood, Bollywood, and Nollywood.

Yesterday, the festival's organizers revealed the details of the first session of the event, during a press conference at "Vox Cinemas" in Nakheel Mall, noting that the "Meta Festival" will attract international talents, celebrities and film enthusiasts to Dubai, in a scene that brings back the Seventh Art Festivals to the city.

"The META Film Festival will revitalize the film and entertainment industry in the region, and we also plan to support the development of creative films through a special fund," said Leila Masinai, festival director and managing partner of Great Mind Events Management, the organizer of the festival.

She explained that the festival will bring together a bouquet of the best Arab films, Hollywood films, Bollywood films, European, Asian and African films, and movie stars under one roof.

Masinai revealed to "Emirates Today" that the festival emerged from a forum that was specialized in showing films concerned with human rights, adding: "In the first session, we will open participation to all films, and we will not be directed towards one theme, because we actually wanted to promote the festival and attract participation and attendance, Setting a unified theme for the first edition of the festival will prevent many from participating, as well as limit global coverage.

She noted that after the end of the first session of the festival, it is possible to go to certain themes that will encourage people to produce within its framework.

As for the forum, which will be organized two days before the start of the festival, she indicated that it will include many discussions and workshops, in addition to an exhibition that will include more than 200 pavilions for exhibits related to the film industry during and after production, and this year will highlight green production, which It takes into account film production without leaving harmful residues for the environment, in addition to workshops for animation films.

She noted the allocation of a fund to support film production, with the aim of developing the local and regional film industry, as it will finance two ideas for pre-production content.

Regarding the distribution of the percentages of films that will be shown at the festival, Masinai said that they will be keen on them according to the distribution of nationalities in Dubai, as there will be 30% films in Arabic, and between 30% and 40% in English, and the remaining percentage will be given to other languages.

For his part, the managing director of Majid Al Futtaim Cinemas, Tony Al Masih, said: “We are proud of our support for the regional film industry, and of being a partner in the opening of the Meta Film Festival, as we consider such events necessary to develop, promote and celebrate the cinema sector, especially as the region has become an increasingly important market. to the global box office.

He confirmed to "Emirates Today" that he expects the festival to attract an audience of different groups.

He pointed out that the usual audience for watching commercial films in the cinema should watch this type of films that the festival will also show, especially as they have a special and quiet style.


The META Film Festival includes a set of awards that will be given to films, including Best English Film, Best Arab Film, Best Southeast Asian Film, Best African Film, Best Animated Film, Best Documentary Film, Best Asian Film and Best Short Film Award.

In addition to the Writer's Room Fund, the Fiction Film Fund, and the Documentary Fund.
