New serious criticism of the award-winning documentary "Sabaya" has been presented by Kvartal.

It was on Tuesday that the magazine published a review of how the film's protagonists are alleged to have forced several of the rescued Yazidi women to divorce their children against false promises to reunite with them.

On Wednesday, a sequel was published that examined the authenticity of one of the documentary's central scenes.

Recreated scene

According to the review made by Kvartal, one of "Sabaya's" supporting scenes is fabricated.

The film shows how the male protagonists Mahmud and Ziyad enter the al-Hol camp to rescue the captured Yazidi women.

The documentary's female protagonist, and the first person to be rescued in the film, is named Leila.

During the dramatic rescue operation, they are chased by IS and come under fire while fleeing for their lives.

The film scene has been part of "Sabaya"'s trailer and is highlighted in international contexts, such as Variety and the BBC.

But by taking part in material such as text messages from director Hogir Hirori and a dated picture of Leila, Kvartal's review now shows that the exemption has been recorded with another woman - in retrospect.

And that Leila was in fact released some time before Hirori arrived in Syria to film the documentary.

The magazine also shows how scenes where the main characters take part in various news items have been edited afterwards.

"Damages the film's credibility"

Since the information was presented, the director has admitted that it is not Laila who is the woman on stage.

He has also informed SVT that the incident is fake.

This is confirmed by SVT's Axel Arnö, publisher responsible for "Sabayas".

- Hogir called me and told me this after he had received your questions.

I did not know this before, no, says Axel Arnö to the magazine.

He continues that Hirori should have informed him and SVT about this earlier.

- Yes, he should have done that, says Arnö, who after taking part in Kvartal's review believes that Sabaya's credibility is damaged.

- Well, it's clear that the film's credibility is being questioned, and a film that loses its credibility… it's serious, I think.

Hogir Hirori himself has not yet responded to the new criticism.
