Getaways Different travel plans to discover Spain in depth
Experience The Al Ándalus train rides again: inside the longest and most glamorous luxury convoy in Spain
This is a bridge for lovers of strong emotions and, above all, for those who do not suffer from vertigo because, in addition to wobbling like a good suspension bridge to the sound of the wind, it rises considerably above a dense forest in the
Czech Republic,
specifically in a area about two and a half hours east of Prague.
The new
Sky Bridge 721
reaches enough meters to become the longest suspension pedestrian bridge in
the world
.
Its name says so: crossing it is an adventure 731 meters long (and 120 cm wide).
It covers the aerial distance between the crests of two mountains in the town of Dolni Morava, near the border with Poland.
At more than 1,100 meters above sea level, the bridge rises 95 meters above the valley at its highest point.
The construction of this giant has taken about two years.
With capacity for 500 people, the suspension bridge has, yes, the
handicap
of weather conditions.
It will remain open as long as the wind "does not exceed 135 kilometers / hour", according to those responsible.
The bridge joins another unusual nature experience that draws tourists from far and wide to this town of about 500 inhabitants.
We are talking about the Sky Walk, a
710-meter
wooden walkway that curves like a screw, offering a very different view of the spectacular landscape.
It also has a slide about 100 meters long for those who decide to go down faster.
In winter, this Czech corner offers ski slopes and even an
alpine roller coaster
that is considered the second longest in Europe.
For those responsible for the project, the Sky Bridge 721 is not just a structure, but a unique opportunity to "learn about the Czech countryside and its history".
To achieve this, they have created a
hiking route
with elements of augmented reality that tells the traveler the history of this place in the heart of Europe.
The Czech exceeds the 516 Arouca bridge in Portugal, with 516 meters and so far the longest in Europe.
Also the Charles Kuonen suspension bridge, in Switzerland, with 494 meters, and the Japanese Kokonoe Yume, which measures 390 meters.
According to the Guinness World Record, the current number one in the world would be the Nepalese Baglung Parbat Footbridge, which the new Sky Bridge 721 would exceed by more than 154 meters.
So here is the new ranking.
I'm sure new candidates for the top spot will soon emerge.
In Spain there is also no lack of structures that defy gravity and the courage of the traveler.
From the famous footbridges of the Camino del Rey in Malaga over the Guadalhorce river to the suspension bridge of the La Hermida via ferrata, in the Picos de Europa, one of the longest in Spain.
