A dead baby was found in a garbage can in Hanover.
Police are currently questioning a 22-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, a police spokeswoman said.
It is not yet certain whether a criminal offense has been committed and whether investigations are being carried out.
The woman had just given birth and was taken to a hospital for medical care.
According to the knowledge so far, the alleged mother herself dialed the emergency call on Tuesday and gave the information.
The police then discovered the dead baby in the garbage can in the Misburg-Nord district, the spokeswoman said.
The body was taken to the forensic department by a funeral home, it said.
The background is still completely unclear, emphasized the police spokeswoman.
It is unclear whether the baby was alive when it was born.
The 22-year-old who is being questioned about the case is said to be the father of the dead child.
Investigators secured clues at the site in the afternoon.
Local residents were also interviewed.
