Last month, after an accident in which a visually impaired woman came into contact with a train and died at a railroad crossing in Yamatokoriyama City, Nara Prefecture, the city re-installed a braille block in front of the railroad crossing where the accident occurred.

On the 25th of last month, a blind woman living nearby at a railroad crossing on the Kintetsu Kashihara Line in Yamatokoriyama City died when she touched a train, and police lost her position in the railroad crossing. , I'm investigating as if I had an accident.

In response to this accident, on the morning of the 24th, city officials and contractors re-installed a Braille block to call attention in front of the railroad crossing at the site.

Originally, four Braille blocks were supposed to be installed on each of the left and right sides of the road in front of the railroad crossing, but according to the city, some of them were peeled off due to deterioration at the time of the accident. I did.

After peeling off the old Braille block, the workers applied paint to the road and re-installed it on the hard-to-peel type Braille block.

It means that we have increased the types and areas of Braille blocks to draw more attention to the visually impaired and to show the direction of the road.

Hirokazu Sano, Deputy Chief of the Yamatokoriyama City Administration Division, said, "We will continue to take measures to eliminate accidents while cooperating with related organizations."

In the future, the city will continue to inspect other railroad crossings in the city and consider whether it is necessary to install Braille blocks.
