The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has decided to lift the hull from the bottom of the sea to near the surface of the sea on the 23rd due to the sinking of a sightseeing boat off the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido.

On April 23, a sightseeing boat "KAZU 1" sank off the coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula, killing 14 passengers and leaving 12 missing. On the 23rd, it was lifted near the surface of the sea by a salvage company's work boat.

The hull was fixed to the workboat while submerged in water, and is currently being transported to the shallow waters off Shari Town.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has decided to wait for the work boat to arrive in the sea area where the anchor can be dropped, and then withdraw the hull of "KAZU 1" onto the work boat as early as the 24th.

After that, it will take several days to drain the water that has accumulated on the ship, and then finally land it at the port.

Regarding this accident, it has become clear that the operating company "Shiretoko Tour Boat" neglected to make fixed-point contact with the sightseeing boat on the day of the accident, and that it did not secure sufficient means of communication.

In the future, the 1st Regional Coast Guard Headquarters will confirm the damaged parts of the hull to be landed and embark on a full-scale identification of the cause of the accident. I have decided.
