Yoshikazu Shirakawa, a photographer from Ehime prefecture who has photographed magnificent nature such as the mountains of the world and Antarctica, died of a cerebral infarction last month.

He was 87 years old.

Mr. Shirakawa is currently from Shikokuchuo City, Ehime Prefecture. After graduating from university, he worked for a radio station and was active as a freelance photographer.



He dynamically photographed the mountains of the world such as the Alps and the Himalayas and gained worldwide acclaim. From 1991 to 1993, he challenged the harsh photography around Antarctica. It was also introduced in "Special".



In addition, he published a series of works on the world of the Bible and Buddhism, won the National Photographers Association Best Photographer Award in 1981, the first Japanese to receive the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 1999. I received the award.


According to Ehime Prefecture, Mr. Shirakawa died of a cerebral infarction on the 5th of last month.
