The "Lovely Time - 24 Solar Terms Cultural and Creative Works Exhibition", which is being exhibited at the Zhongyi Future Fashion Museum in Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, presents a large number of 24 solar terms cultural and creative design works that are full of the flavor of the new era.

When the twenty-four solar terms meet creative design, what kind of sparks will they collide?

To find out, we interviewed Wang Xudong, the curator of this exhibition and the director of the Office of Sino-Italian Design Innovation Base of Tsinghua University, to listen to him tell the story behind the exhibition.

Please briefly introduce the background and overview of this exhibition.

　　Wang Xudong: The twenty-four solar terms are the product of the ancient farming civilization and the crystallization of the wisdom of our working people.

In 2006, "The Twenty-Four Solar Terms of the Lunar Calendar" was selected into the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists, and projects such as "Shiqian Saying Spring", "Summer in the Mid-mountain", "Miao People Catching Autumn" and "Sanmen Festival Winter" have also been included in the national list. In 2016, "Twenty-four solar terms - the time knowledge system and practice formed by the Chinese people by observing the movement of the sun's anniversary" was listed in UNESCO The list of representative works of human intangible cultural heritage; at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, the 24 solar terms countdown short film amazed the world with "Chinese romance", showing the unique charm of Chinese culture.

We hope that by holding such an exhibition, people, especially the younger generation, will be inspired to learn and interpret the 24 solar terms culture, guide the young people to understand and understand the excellent traditional Chinese culture, tell Chinese stories well, and promote the Chinese spirit. , to spread the voice of China.

The content covers illustration and graphic design, art installation, product packaging design, fabric and clothing design, cultural creativity and industrial product design, arts and crafts design, research and development design of aesthetic education courses, etc. Interpret the rich connotation of the twenty-four solar terms from multiple dimensions.

　Reporter: What is the age range of the exhibitors in this exhibition?

What are the highlights of their work?

　　Wang Xudong: Most of the exhibitors in this exhibition are university teachers and students. These new generation design forces have very distinct creative characteristics.

　　First, the works are diverse in style and novel in form.

Young people can come into contact with diverse cultures and colorful lifestyles, which greatly inspires their creations.

Taking my impressive work as an example, the calendar design of "Food Time" integrates the form of "eating" with the traditional customs of the twenty-four solar terms.

The creator uses edible glutinous rice paper as the material of the calendar, and depicts the food customs of each solar term on it, so that people can perceive the "delicacy" of the twenty-four solar terms in the experience of "tear and eat".

"Chess Language Agricultural Time" creatively integrates solar terms elements into chess and card games, from program design to visual presentation, interlocking, and interestingly conveys the relevant knowledge of the twenty-four solar terms to players, and conveys that "all things can only conform to the agricultural season" Only by growing can we obtain the corresponding harvest” concept.

　　The second is the use of visual narrative to interpret themes.

Young creators grew up in a new era of cultural prosperity. They were influenced by a large number of movies, comics, and picture books. Therefore, their works also showed the unique charm of image narrative.

"Four Seasons of Life" uses a film-like composition to reproduce the life of contemporary youth in the changing solar terms; "Twenty-four solar terms with Blue Girl" expresses seasonal changes and people's spirit in the form of a story book. connections between worlds.

Reporter: What elements or characteristics do you think should have in the creative design works of the twenty-four solar terms in the new era?

How can we create good works that fit the context of the new era?

　　Wang Xudong: The creative design works of the twenty-four solar terms in the new era should have the characteristics of conforming to the modern life scene, leading the aesthetic fashion of the times, and possessing emotional interaction attributes. Excavation of the cultural significance behind it.

Only in this way can we create works that can be applied to current life and bring a good cultural experience.

　　Generally speaking, the inspiration of creators mainly comes from the comprehension of the twenty-four solar terms culture, as well as the attention to real life, the two complement and complement each other.

Many beautiful customs closely related to the atmosphere of the twenty-four festivals represent traditional life styles, but they are not necessarily suitable for modern life scenes.

What creators need to do is to break through the appearance, dig out the cultural core of these traditional customs, and introduce them into modern aesthetic structures and life scenes, triggering resonance across time and space, and conveying the cultural connotation of the twenty-four solar terms.
