The epicenter of the earthquake was 36 kilometers away from Luding County, Ganzi Prefecture, 66 kilometers away from Ya'an City, and 188 kilometers away from Chengdu City.

The earthquake caused obvious tremors in the surrounding areas, such as Chengdu, Leshan, Mianyang, Nanchong, Ganzi in Sichuan, Longnan in Gansu, Chongqing and other places.
