The first visit to Spain of who has been our Head of State for 38 years after almost 22 months since his departure to Abu Dhabi, naturally acquires extraordinary interest and provokes all kinds of reactions in public opinion.

King

Juan Carlos

landed this Thursday afternoon in Galicia to spend the weekend surrounded by friends and some relatives while he enjoys one of his great hobbies, sailing, in the regatta that takes place in

Sanxenxo

.

This return, although we are alone before

e a short stay and of a strictly private nature, it is surrounded by too many constraints that made it more difficult than it would have been desirable.

First of all because, as expected, it was going to be well used by matches of the

radical left and independentistas

to attack once again against the Monarchy, as a key to the vault that is of our entire institutional framework.

The reality is that any of the circumstances in which the return of the Emeritus would have occurred would have brought the same outrageous and sectarian criticism from these formations.

That said, we believe that

Don Juan Carlos should have managed this trip with more prudence and discretion

, and always under the guidelines of the House of the King, which is the one that corresponds to mark the pace of its members in accordance with the principles of transparency and scrupulous exemplary character that it has been successfully printing

Philip VI

to the renewed monarchy that it has embodied since its proclamation in 2014. Some discomfort in the institution is understandable due to the way of transmitting that the visit was going to take place when it was not even closed, which has served to magnify the media noise for days.

And it would also have been convenient for a matter of decorum that Don Juan Carlos had seen his son before heading to Sanxenxo, instead of the meeting being held on Monday.

But, beyond that, we reiterate that it was a mistake that Juan Carlos I was forced to leave Spain in August 2020, pushed by

a government that with great irresponsibility does not stop destabilizing a core institution

.

And, already in the current circumstances, what corresponds is that the frequent visits that the Emeritus himself announced that he is going to make to Spain be normalized as soon as possible.

He was within reason that Don Juan Carlos, as a result of conduct completely incompatible with the exemplary nature required of the monarchy, ceased to reside in Zarzuela, seat of the Head of State.

But that he cannot spend the night in what has been his residence for half a century when he is in Madrid seems like an excess.

Juan Carlos I is entitled to the honorary title of King for life and honors similar to those established for the heir to the Crown.

And this perpetual undermining in which Moncloa insists on the dignity of someone who, among his great services to the nation, can boast of having piloted the transition to democracy weakens a parliamentary monarchy in which so many citizens find an umbrella of harmony, prosperity and unity. .
