Himechamadara bonito is a small butterfly about 3 cm in size with a white mottled pattern on dark brown. It inhabits only Mt. Apoi in the Hidaka region of Hokkaido in Japan, and is designated as a national natural monument.

In recent years, the number has decreased due to changes in the habitat environment, etc., so the Japan Butterfly Conservation Society and the local Samani townsman group "Mt. Every year from May to June, we conduct a survey to confirm the number of individuals.



According to the researchers conducting the survey, there are days when about 30 adults are confirmed a day, which seems to have increased about three times compared to last year.



Members of associations and townspeople groups have begun conservation activities last year to raise larvae and return them to their habitat, Mt. Apoi, which may have been successful.
