The Funiflaine mixed union announced on Tuesday the abandonment of the valley lift project of the same name.

The cable car was to connect the town of Magland (Haute-Savoie), in the Arve valley, to the ski resort of Flaine, at an altitude of 1,600 m, in 15 minutes, details France Bleu Pays de Savoie.

The 88 million euro project had been under discussion for around thirty years and was due to see the light of day in 2025 after three years of work.

The objective was to "allow locals to work in the resort and live in the plain without needing to use their car", explained the officials.

A reduction in air pollution was also targeted.

However, Funiflaine was not unanimous.

Several problems noted

Its feasibility was called into question, particularly in the face of rising commodity prices.

Administrative delays were also observed.

The project, which had become uncertain, was supported by the Departmental Council of Haute-Savoie, which planned to finance it to the tune of 25 million euros.
