Traffic on the A7 motorway will gradually resume after the accident which interrupted it on Wednesday, reports AFP.

It reopened this Thursday morning in the north-south direction, after being completely closed between Lyon and Valence due to a collision involving a heavy goods vehicle transporting hazardous materials.

Traffic was restored in the direction of Marseille around 7:15 a.m., while the motorway remained closed in the early morning in the other direction to allow the cleaning of the roadway.

The evacuation of the tanker, which required the routing of a “special crane”, was carried out at 4:30 a.m., specifies Vinci Autoroutes in a press release.

Vinci adds that "in the direction of Lyon, traffic will resume during the morning, after the end of road cleaning operations and the evacuation of heavy goods vehicles parked at the Vienne toll gate".

All vehicles were evacuated in the evening

The accident occurred Wednesday, around 11:30 a.m., near Chasse-sur-Rhône (Isère) between a car and a tanker truck.

This one lay down on the tracks.

It was carrying 19,000 liters of carbon disulphide, an unstable and flammable product.

The accident required the closure of the motorway in both directions due to the establishment of a security perimeter, causing "significant disruption" of traffic on this busy axis.

“All light vehicles were gradually evacuated from the motorway in the evening.

The heavy goods vehicles are parked on the highway and their drivers have received food and drink, ”specifies the prefecture.
