Saving the life of a young Saudi man weighing 200 kilograms

The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) team was able to save the life of a young patient in his thirties who was suffering from severe obesity and acute respiratory failure, which necessitated his placement on the ACMO device to work as an artificial lung outside the body.

According to "Okaz" newspaper, this case is considered one of the rarest cases in the world, due to the high rate of obesity that the patient was suffering from, as his weight is more than (200 kg) and his body mass index is more than ninety.

The patient's condition was supervised by the ACMO team at Asir Central Hospital.

The patient recovered, and the ACMO device was disconnected, and he was discharged home in good health.

It is noteworthy that Alacmo services have been operating in Asir Central Hospital since 2017, with a rapid response team on duty over 24 hours to serve all governmental and private hospitals in the region.
