It was after the riots of the Easter weekend that Radio Sweden changed a quote from Ebba Bush (KD) in its Arabic-, Kurdish- and Somali-speaking channels, so that it became grossly misleading.
After harsh criticism, SR announced that it had gone through a thousand publications and that the errors were editorial mistakes.
As a measure, the management of the editorial offices would be strengthened.
Recurring problem
Now a new review of Dagens Nyheter shows that the problems with mistranslations have occurred for a long time.
Several former employees at Radio Sweden testify to how there has been a lack of journalistic competence and that Arabic has in many cases been deficient.
In several cases, the errors pointed out have not been corrected either.
- Many times I drew their attention to linguistic and editorial errors.
They did not admit the mistakes and did not correct them, says one of the journalists to Dagens Nyheter.
Grammatical errors
Furthermore, DN writes that several news articles published on Radio Sweden's website contain several grammatical errors.
In total, there are 134 errors containing syllable errors, verbs and punctuation that are missing and articles without a full stop.
Gaby Katz is the editor-in-chief of Radio Sweden and tells Dagens Nyheter that they sometimes employ people without journalistic skills, but that the linguistic errors were new to her.
- I do not agree that the errors make reading difficult, but it shows that the shortcomings we have pointed out in the production routines, which should capture, for example, language errors before publication, she tells DN.
- We do not want it that way on our site, it is unacceptable.
