The organizers of an "Oktoberfest" in Dubai that has been planned for more than a year are no longer allowed to advertise with allusions to the Munich original.

On Thursday in the trial before the Munich Higher Regional Court, they undertook to refrain from phrases such as "Oktoberfest goes Dubai", "Oktoberfest Dubai" or "The traditional Oktoberfest at the EXPO 2021 World Exhibition".

The organizer had submitted an extensive declaration of discontinuance for the record, after which the legal dispute was declared settled, an OLG spokesman said after the approximately two-hour hearing.

The organizers of the event, which has been postponed again and again, are no longer allowed to use photos of the real Wiesn or pictures, for example with lettering such as "The largest folk festival in the world in Dubai".

The district court in Munich had already ruled last summer that this type of advertising was based on the international reputation of the Oktoberfest in the Bavarian capital.

With announcements such as "Oktoberfest goes Dubai", the organizers gave the wrong impression that the traditional festival was moving to the Arab Emirate, the Munich Regional Court decided at the time at the request of the City of Munich.

The organizers of the Dubai event had appealed against this decision.
