A Jordanian parliamentarian revealed that a delegation from the Jordan Hijaz Railway Corporation will visit Syria soon, to activate the Hijaz Railway, which is one of the oldest railways in the region.

The Jordanian "Ammon" news agency quoted the head of the Parliamentary Tourism, Antiquities and Public Services Committee, Majid Al-Rawashdeh, as saying that the Jordanian delegation will discuss in Syria the activation of the railway "for commercial and tourism purposes that will benefit both sides with economic benefits."

He added that "the next stage requires everyone to identify and overcome obstacles and challenges to find solutions to revitalize the important and vital Hijaz line for the tourism, transport and services sector in Jordan."

The director of the foundation, Zahi Khalil, explained that the talks between the Foundation and its Syrian counterpart (the General Organization of the Hijaz Railway) came to reactivate the line for tourism purposes in the first phase, and commercial purposes for the second phase.

"Ammon" quoted Khalil that the institution expects to raise tourism income from reactivating the Hejaz line from 10-25% in the first year, and pointed out that "the issue depends on the Syrian side, which expressed cooperation and welcomes this step by inviting the Jordanian delegation to visit and discuss reactivation." Line".

It is noteworthy that the Hijaz Railway, established during the term of the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II, was established with the aim of serving Muslim pilgrims, linking the provinces of the Ottoman Empire, transporting goods and soldiers, and linking the line between Damascus and Amman all the way to Medina.
