Created 15 years ago, the mythical online media stops.

A little less than two years ago, the

Brain Magazine

website  had already disappeared to become a paid newsletter,

Brain Matin

.

She stops herself.

Brain

marked a whole young generation, in particular with its "Page whore" and "Page president".

The media, both quirky and serious, was founded 15 years ago by journalist Anaïs Carayon.

She explains to Europe 1 why she decided to put an end to this great adventure.

"I think we were really the first French media to show that the Internet was not just blogs. In terms of audience, we were competing with the big media for a while," the journalist told our microphone. .

"We also invented in France the 'intellol' tone, which is both funny, stupid, and with a lot of substance. We wrote a lot of river interviews, crazy reports. We were a bit like the French gonzo magazine. "

The "intellectual" tone against pressure from GAFAM

And if

Brain

stops today, it's for several reasons.

Working with just three employees to produce one newsletter a day is exhausting.

Anaïs Carayon is also tired of fighting against GAFAM algorithms, Google and Facebook censorship.

The economic pressure becomes too complicated for this media which does not want to have investors.

Advertisers are more and more demanding and less and less respectful of

Brain

's editorial line .

"We have been carrying a media at arm's length for two years, in an economy, an environment and a state of mind that have changed a lot", regrets Anaïs Carayon.

"Where we fought while having fun for 13 years, we have been doing it while having fun a little less for two years.

Brain

is a happy medium. Doing it with a little less joie de vivre is complicated. Having had a pretty great time, I find it hard to tell myself that I can continue to do my job properly in a changed world."

The journalist will continue to host Brain

's popular

social media channels until at least September 2022.
