Météo France placed six departments on orange alert on Sunday morning, from Normandy to the Loire Valley, due to thunderstorms expected in the afternoon, while much of the rest of the country finds itself on yellow alert for the same reason.

The weather forecasting organization reports the risk of “severe thunderstorms, with intense precipitation, hail and strong gusts of wind” from mid-afternoon.

Strong winds and hailstorms

“Storm cells can be accompanied by sudden gusts of wind close to 80 to 100 km/h sometimes a little more, as well as hailstorms.

They also bring high rainfall intensities, with cumulative rains that can be between 20 and 40 mm in less than an hour”, specifies Météo France.

The thunderstorm risk subsides in the evening.

“Elsewhere, the risk exists but seems more temporary.

Storms will persist in the night from Sunday to Monday from the South-West to the North-East borders, but they will be less intense than the previous ones, ”adds the organization which has placed 86 departments and Andorra in yellow vigilance.

Corsica and the departments of Hérault, Gard, Ardèche, Bouches-du-Rhône and Vaucluse are the only ones not to be subject to any particular vigilance.

Maximum temperatures will be between 18 and 25 degrees on the tip of Brittany on Sunday, 22 to 25 degrees on the Mediterranean coast, 27 to 31 degrees in the rest of the country.
