Saotome is from Tokyo, and when she was 12 years old, she experienced a bombing of Tokyo before dawn on March 10, 1945, and witnessed many people dying while the downtown area was surrounded by the sea of ​​fire. bottom.



After the end of the war, she worked at a town factory and she pursued a literary career, and the "Shitamachi Hometown" she wrote at the age of 18 was nominated for the Naoki Prize.



In 1970, she formed the "Tokyo Air Raid Recording Society" and was involved in the editing of the "Tokyo Air Raid / War Damage Magazine", as well as through works such as "Tokyo Air Raid" and "The Day when Tokyo Burned". , Communicated the misery of war and the importance of peace.



She also made an effort to open the "Tokyo Air Raid and War Damage Information Center" and became the first director in order to pass on the memories of the war. He also served as the co-representative of the Air Raid Victim Liaison Council.



According to her officials, Saotome died at a hospital in Saitama prefecture on the 10th due to senility.
