It's stress time.

The 2022 baccalaureate begins.

For the first time, the written specialty tests are being held, depending on the subject, from Wednesday May 11 to Thursday May 13 in mainland France, Reunion, and in the Antilles-Guyana (they were initially scheduled for March 14 to 16), and from May 18 to 20 in Mayotte.

In 2020, due to the pandemic, the events had been cancelled.

Ditto last year, the continuous assessment had still represented the main part of the final mark of the examination.

Philosophy had been the only written test, with French first.

523,199 candidates are expected for the 2022 baccalaureate exams (including 7,762 independent candidates), with 381,221 candidates for the general route and 141,978 candidates for the technological route.

takes stock of this new baccalaureate vintage.

What are the baccalaureate specialty exams?

These specialty events - which have therefore never been able to be organized in two years because of the Covid-19 - have been postponed for two months.

They are held this week in metropolitan France.

The health crisis and the workload of the programs for these specialties - the two "major" subjects chosen by each high school student in the final year - made the Ministry of National Education fear that the students would not be ready to take the written tests from the month of March.

However, these specialty tests have a high coefficient in the final mark of the baccalaureate.

Among them: arts, history-geography, geopolitics and political science, humanity, literature and philosophy, mathematics, digital and computer sciences, physics-chemistry or even economics and social sciences.

All terminale students who are in the “general track” or in the “technological track”, take these specialty tests.

They must choose three specialties in première, and keep only two in terminale, on which they are assessed.

This year, mathematics, in the lead, will bring together 142,730 candidates, against 136,466 in economics and social sciences (SES), or 106,994 in history-geography, geopolitics and political science (HGGSP).

For these written tests, which take place from Wednesday to Friday depending on the subjects, the subjects have also been adjusted: the candidates will have a greater choice of questions or exercises.

The program remains the one that was planned for March.

How does it work on the notes side?

Since the baccalaureate reform in 2019, the baccalaureate mark is based 40% on continuous assessment and 60% on final tests (written and oral French, passed in first class, philosophy, specialty tests and major oral, passed in final).

The final mark of the baccalaureate also takes into account these specialty subjects (coefficient eight) and the five common core subjects: history-geography, modern languages A and B, physical and sports education, and scientific education.

These five subjects have a coefficient of six.

Moral and civic education is also part of continuous assessment (coefficient two).

What about technological sectors?

Students will have two specialties imposed according to the course chosen.

The STMG sector (sciences and technologies of management and management) will work on "management, management and digital sciences" and "law and economics".

The ST2S sector (health and social sciences and technologies) will have as tests “chemistry, biology and human physiopathology” and “health and social sciences and techniques”.

The STL (Sciences et Technologies de Laboratoire) section will deal with “physics-chemistry and mathematics” and “biochemistry-biology-biotechnology or physical and chemical sciences in the laboratory”.

The STI2D sector (sciences and technologies of industry and sustainable development) will bring together the specialties “engineering, innovation and sustainable development” and “physics-chemistry and mathematics”.

The STHR sector (sciences and technologies of the hotel and catering industry) will have as tests “culinary and service sciences and technologies – scientific education food environment” and “economy – hotel management”.

The STD2A sector (sciences and technologies of design and applied arts) will include the tests of "analysis and methods in design" and "conception and creation in design and crafts" and the S2TMD sector (sciences and techniques of theatre, music and dance) will work on "culture and science" and "practice".
