Application R&D projects in cooperation with mainland institutions are scheduled to accept applications from now until June 30.

Details of the three themes are as follows:

Biotechnology: research and development of biological drugs such as vaccines and antibodies, research on the prevention and treatment of major clinical diseases with traditional Chinese medicine, research on the creation of new traditional Chinese medicines, and synthetic biology technology.

Artificial intelligence: research on the security and privacy of artificial intelligence systems, intelligent transportation, intelligent robots and related application technologies in extreme weather/natural disasters, brain-like intelligence, and intelligent medical care (including medical robots).

New materials: optoelectronic materials, third-generation semiconductor technology, key materials for hydrogen fuel cells, high-safety lithium-ion battery materials, and biomedical materials.

The department pointed out that the plan aims to support and encourage Hong Kong and the mainland to strengthen scientific research cooperation. The relevant applications must be jointly submitted by institutions in Hong Kong and the mainland, and submitted to the Innovation and Technology Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) respectively.

The research and development work of the application project must be carried out in both places, with elements of cooperation between the two places.

The Innovation and Technology Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology will respectively provide funding to applicants from Hong Kong and the Mainland, and monitor the progress of the projects in accordance with their respective regulations.
