Young Thug may have taken his stage name a little too much to heart.

The Atlanta rapper, whose nickname means "Young Thug", was arrested on Monday on suspicion of being the founder of a gang.

The star, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, has been identified alongside 27 other people as a member of Young Slime Life (YSL), which is linked to the very powerful Bloods.

He is also suspected of having participated in assassinations and armed robberies.

Young Thug's label is linked in several aspects to YSL, already by name, since it was called YSL Records and Young Stoner Life Records.

The artists signed by the star call themselves the “Slime Family”.

The indictment, reported on Monday by the

, claims that the gang with which Young Thug is associated is responsible for "witness intimidation, murder, attempted murder, car-jacking, burglary, theft and trafficking of drugs,” among others.

The rapper is suspected, according to the document, of having committed a number of these crimes, even if he is not officially (and for the moment) indicted for each of these facts.

The rapper's attorney, Brian Steel, was interviewed by local broadcaster WSB-TV after the indictment was announced.

"Jeffery Williams has committed no crime and we will fight to the last drop of blood to clear him," he said.

Young Thug is due in court on Tuesday.
