The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced that the ship's communication equipment had passed the inspection, despite the fact that the ship's communication equipment was inadequate due to the sinking of a tourist ship off the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido. Announced measures to strengthen the check.

In the case of mobile phones, if the communication environment is not sufficient, the equipment will be changed.

In the accident where the tourist ship "KAZU 1" sank off the Shiretoko Peninsula, killing 14 people and missing 12 people, the ship's communication equipment was a mobile phone with an area where radio waves could not reach. Nevertheless, it was revealed that they had passed the ship inspection.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism acknowledged that the ship inspection may have been insufficient, and announced on the 10th measures to strengthen the check on the communication equipment of the ship.

Specifically, when using a mobile phone as a communication facility, confirm that communication is sufficient on all routes using the "call area map" published by the mobile phone company, and actually ship the ship depending on the situation. It is said that it will be sailed and checked to see if it can communicate reliably with land.

On top of that, if the communication environment is inadequate, the operator will be requested to change to equipment that can always communicate, such as satellite phones.

Regarding safety measures for small vessels, discussions on improving the effectiveness of vessel inspections are expected to begin at the national committee meeting held on the 11th.
