Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, May 8 (Reporter Liu Mingyang) The election of the sixth chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will be held at 9:00 a.m. on the 8th.

Members of the Election Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region came to the main polling station located at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre to cast a secret ballot on a one-person, one-vote basis.

This election is the first chief executive election after the improvement of the Hong Kong SAR's electoral system.

The validly nominated candidate in this election is Li Jiachao, the former Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

Each electoral committee can cast a vote of support or no vote, and the voting time will last until 11:30.

After the polls are over, the counting of votes will be carried out manually by the staff of the counting station.

After the counting of votes, the Returning Officer announced the election results.

Due to the epidemic, in order to reduce the flow of people at the main polling station, the voting time was extended by 30 minutes compared with previous elections.

According to the five sectors of the Election Committee, the Election Administration Commission of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has divided different "recommended polling time periods" for the Election Committee to go to the main polling station to vote.

According to the relevant laws and regulations on the election of the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Chief Executive is elected by an Election Committee that is broadly representative, conforms to the actual situation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and reflects the overall interests of society, and is appointed by the Central People's Government.
