Russia was excluded from the Eurovision song contest 2022 due to the invasion of Ukraine. Russia has participated in the competition since 1994 and has often placed in the top ten. But before the fall of the Iron Curtain, the Soviet Union had its own, socialist Eurovision.
Intervision song contest was held for a couple of years in the 60s and between 1977 and 1980. Participated were the Soviet states, but also, for example, Cuba and Finland.
In the 2000s, several attempts have been made to revive the competition - including from the Russian side.
