It has been 50 years since Okinawa returned to the mainland.

In line with this, Okinawa Prefecture has compiled a new "proposal" for the first time in about half a century, requesting the Japanese and US governments to resolve the base problem as soon as possible, and announced it on the 7th.

When the Diet was discussing the Okinawa Reversion Agreement in 1971, the Ryukyu government at that time compiled a "Proposal for Reinstatement Measures" so that the voice of Okinawa would be reflected in the discussions in the Diet.

As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the return to the mainland on the 15th of this month, Okinawa Prefecture has compiled a new proposal for the first time in about half a century and announced it on the 7th.

According to the new proposal, "At the time of return, the goal of" making Okinawa an island of peace "shared by Okinawa Prefecture and the government has not yet been achieved even after 50 years have passed."

On top of that, the early stage of the base problem, such as sharing the public awareness of the significance and importance of returning to the mainland, drastically reviewing the Japan-US Status of Forces Agreement, and abandoning the relocation of the U.S. military Futenma base to Henoko, Nago City. It is said that it will propose a solution to both the Japanese and US governments.

In addition, we will respect the people's will expressed by legitimate procedures to the Government of Japan, work toward the pursuit of the Constitutional Philosophy, and Japan will work to ease tensions and build trust through peaceful diplomacy and dialogue, and will be proactive in the international community. I want to play a role.

Governor Tamaki is coordinating to visit Tokyo on the 10th of this month to hand over the proposal to Prime Minister Kishida, the chairs of both Houses of Representatives, and the US Ambassador to Japan.
