Governor Kuroiwa exchanged opinions with the mayors of three ordinance-designated cities in Kanagawa Prefecture, who are seeking realization, on the concept of a "special autonomous city" that gives government-designated cities the same authority and financial resources as prefectures.

"Special Autonomous City" is a concept to give government-designated cities the same authority and financial resources as prefectures for the purpose of eliminating so-called dual administration. On the 6th, the first meeting with Governor Kuroiwa was held at the request of the mayors of the three cities.

In this, Mayor Fukuda of Kawasaki City complained, "In order for residents to receive better services, big cities need the authority and financial resources commensurate with their abilities."

In response, Governor Kuroiwa said, "It will not lead to improvement of services for residents, and new costs will be required. Legislation is not appropriate."

At the meeting, they agreed that it is necessary to share issues and try to solve them from the perspective of the residents, and we decided to continue discussions on a regular basis.

Mayor Yamanaka of Yokohama City, who served as the chairman, said, "It was a good starting point for thinking about the ideal way of local autonomy as the population declines. I would like to continue to deepen the discussion."

Governor Kuroiwa said, "I'm glad we were able to agree on the point of view of the residents. It's safe to continue discussions in the future."
