The sea-crossing section of the East Rail Line of the Sha-Central Line will be opened to traffic on the 15th of this month. From the 7th, the East Rail Line will be replaced with 9 trucks, commonly known as The 12-car mid-term refurbishment train (MLR train) of "Black Teenage Head" was "retired" today (6th).

  The last train to carry passengers, "Wu Tiao Tau", was prepared at Platform 1 of Hung Hom Station at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, and then headed to Sha Tin Station. After a short stop for passengers to take pictures, it officially retired and completed its historical mission.

  MTR described on social media that "MLR has served everyone for decades and connected everyone's daily life. It can be said that everyone's 'seeing the big from childhood'".

  According to reports, the MLR train is a mid-term refurbishment train of the MTR, with a rounded front, which is called "black teeny head" by railway fans.

Its predecessor was the first-generation electrified train that accompanied Hong Kong people for more than ten years, commonly known as the "Yellow Head" Metropolitan Jiamu Train. It has been put into service since 1982. From 1996 to 1999, the appearance of the train and the interior of the carriage were refurbished to "black teeny head". , now only one remains for reservation.

  The first generation of electrified trains was officially retired in 1999.

In order to commemorate this train, the then Kowloon-Canton Railway Company also arranged a special "Retirement Journey" train for citizens to ride on October 31, 1999.

The "Retirement Journey" train departs from Hung Hom and ends at Tai Po Market. The whole journey has attracted more than 4,000 citizens to participate.
