In Hanover, the public prosecutor's office is investigating a suspected fraud involving millions of euros against a catering company.

According to NDR, which refers to the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung, among other things, the accused are said to have pocketed corona subsidies of around three million euros with the “Duke Burger” gastro chain as a profit.

In addition, the company embezzled short-time work benefits of 500,000 euros, according to the NDR.

On Friday, around 350 officers searched around 40 objects in a large-scale operation.

Around 70 moving boxes of documents were confiscated, as a spokesman for the public prosecutor's office in Hanover told the broadcaster.

Cash and a car were also seized.

According to NDR, three of the five suspects are currently in custody.

Among them are a managing director, a former boss and a computer scientist from the company.
