“As we speak, a second evacuation is underway, a second UN and ICRC convoy is addressing civilians in the city of Mariupol,” António Guterres announced on Wednesday evening in an exclusive interview with RFI.

“

Other evacuations are in preparation

”, adds the UN Secretary General, who returns in this interview to the difficult negotiation he had on April 26 in Moscow with Vladimir Putin: “

It is with strength and emotion that I told him about the need to evacuate the civilians from the Mariupol steel plant.

And at the end of our exchange, this allowed President Putin to promise to look at this question.

And a few minutes later, his Minister of Foreign Affairs told me that there was an agreement in principle.

 »

How come even the UN Secretary General can't get a ceasefire?

This shows that the power of the UN Secretary-General is much smaller than we think

", replies António Guterres with the frankness of a seasoned politician, before immediately adding: "

But I will not withdraw not and I will never lose hope

”.
