Aspen Pharmacare, based in South Africa, has confirmed that it needs clear commitments within weeks from African governments to orders for its anti-Coronavirus vaccine, or else it will shift its vaccine production line to produce anesthetics with more orders.

Yesterday, Bloomberg news agency quoted the strategic trade official of the largest pharmaceutical company on the continent, Stavros Nikolaou, as saying that the company felt let down by the lack of interest in its vaccine, which is a locally made version of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

"We were sure of the importance of having a local manufacturing platform, and that it would be supported," he added.

He stated that Aspen Pharmacare produces scanty quantities of Corona vaccines from the line, noting that there are no orders for the vaccine that carries its brand, which is intended for direct sale in Africa.
