The nudge: gentle incentive to change our behavior

A fake fly stuck to the bottom of the urinal to encourage men to aim straight and reduce cleaning expenses in the toilets, stairs disguised as a piano to make you want to go up without taking the elevator, this is the principle nudge, which could be translated as “Coup de Pouce” or “Coup de Cougue” in French.

This American concept consists of adopting a virtuous behavior thanks to psychological incentives, with the aim of reducing the financial costs of a public policy or a company.

We now find nudges everywhere, in the street, in transport, including to promote the application of barrier gestures against the pandemic.

But for what real efficiency?

Can marketing really replace a real public policy?

Between gentle incitement and manipulation, where should the line be drawn?
