When we think of the Egyptian pharaohs, we immediately think of Tutankhamun, Cheops, Akhenaten or Ramses II.
Unless you are an expert in Egyptology, you probably don't know their distant predecessors Piânkhy, Chabataka, Taharqa or Tanouétamani?
The Louvre Museum makes us discover them thanks to the first exhibition organized in France on the Napatan period.
Napatan, like the city of Napata, capital of the kingdom of Kush, in Nubia, in the heart of present-day Sudan.
It tells how these daring sovereigns who - in the 8th century BC - extended their power in the Nile valley, to the delta, before being crushed by the Assyrians.
A real epic, told over more than 1,000 square meters by some 200 objects.
Stelae and monumental granite statues adorned with hieroglyphs, bronze and gold statuettes and other amulets, objects some of which were discovered during very recent excavations.
The Pharaoh of the Two Lands
exhibition
is to be discovered at the Louvre until July 25.
