• Guided visit to the improvement works of Las Ventas

The Madrid Bull Association has written a letter to the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, denouncing the state of abandonment of the Monumental de las Ventas, which has a category of

Protected Cultural Asset since 1994

by the Government of Spain and Well of Patrimonial Interest by the Community of Madrid.

The letter also includes the Minister of the Presidency, Enrique López, the managing director of the Center for Bullfighting Affairs, Miguel Abellán, and the current businessmen of Plaza 1, Simón Casas, and Rafael García Garrido.

"From the El Toro de Madrid Association we want to convey to you the

great concern of the fan

about the state of the Las Ventas Bullring. For a few years we have observed how the maintenance work on the building has been decreasing,

increasing this abandonment during the current period of exploitation

", states the text, which provides a photographic report of the certainly deteriorated state of the first square in the world.

The Madrid Bull Association urges "the competent administration" to undertake the due actions: "We reiterate that the Las Ventas Bullring must be an example for the rest of the bullfighting world and this must not only focus on what happens in the arena, but

the infrastructure must be in accordance with the category

of the plaza".

The attached photographs request "the replacement of the ceramics of the correguas in the lines with original pattern", "the elimination of humidity, cleaning and painting of walls in the interior corridors", also in the access stairs and in ceilings and "the clearing of existing vegetation on lines".

The Plaza de Las Ventas suffered serious deterioration with the snowfall of Filomena in 2021,

massive leaks of water

from the lines and multiple damages.

The Community of Madrid, which renounced the great reform of the Monumental to dedicate it exclusively to bullfighting due to the problem of licenses for other types of shows, undertook the pertinent works to adapt the stairs to the required security measures, which led to the loss of 655 localities.

However,

the decline and abandonment

of the most profitable property in the Community of Madrid -only between 2004 and 2019 it contributed 52 million euros to the community coffers- is gradual and verifiable.

The pandemic closure period has aggravated the state of conservation of a 1929 building.

The images show transit areas with external furniture and various obstacles, the abandonment of decorative elements, flooring in poor condition... The Plaza de Las Ventas

celebrated in this way

the blurred day of the Community, the Goyesca of May 2.
