A psychiatric illness "characterised by a set of symptoms, the most impressive of which are delusions and hallucinations and the most disabling" (according to Inserm), schizophrenia today affects nearly 600,000 French people.
But if this affection often pushes those who are affected to put themselves "in social withdrawal", it is she who brought Camille and Jason together...
Love vs hallucinations and suicidal urges
Together for five months, the lovebirds met thanks to a TV show in which Jason presented his illness.
And their friendship quickly turned into love: “I was touched because I recognized myself in what he was saying,” confirms Camille.
Diagnosed at the age of 11, Jason, who thought he would never have a girlfriend “because I was an idiot”, now feels supported: “I know that she understands me.
And we trust each other."
Despite the voices that sometimes tell her to kill herself or "to hurt Jason", Camille knows that she can rely on her "very protective and understanding" lover to combat her hallucinations.
Carried away by this spiral of positivism, the young couple even plans to have a child: “we know our illness, so we will be able to spot it in our children if there is a problem”.
