In Urville (Aube), a small village of a hundred souls, the city council decided at the end of 2021 to equip the town with five video surveillance cameras, installed last March.

A measure taken due to several thefts and burglaries observed in the area in recent years, reports France 3 Grand-Est.

According to our colleagues, the mayor of the village is counting on the dissuasive effect of this device, announced on panels installed at the entrances to the village.

The city councilor will also be the only one to be able to observe the images recorded on his computer, then automatically erased after a month.

30,000 euros for five cameras

According to France 3 Grand-Est, this measure constitutes an overall investment of around 30,000 euros, half financed by the Grand-Est Regional Council, and 30% by the State.

Five hundred euros per year will then be necessary for the proper functioning of the system.

Four other municipalities in Aube have since filed a grant application with the Regional Council for the installation of CCTV cameras.
